Following the large international response to the 2005 and 2007 DETAIL Prize competitions and the success of the symposium at the BAU trade fair, DETAIL, in collaboration with the Bavarian Chamber of Architects and the Association of German Architects - Bavaria (BDA Bayern e.V.), will once again award the DETAIL Prize in 2009. Prizes are awarded to buildings that feature especially well-designed, groundbreaking and technically-innovative details within an outstanding overall design.

»...the details and the whole are one...«

Le Corbusier, La Plus Grand Aventure Du Monde, 1956

Competition task

Outstanding architecture not only meets high aesthetic criteria, but also fulfils its function – right down to the last detail. Only when aesthetics and technology combine to form a whole is exceptional architecture created. DETAIL’s aim and raison d’être is to present these solutions to a wider audience.

The award will focus on the innovative details which play a crucial part in an outstanding overall design. It is not just about solving technical problems, but about the role of the details as essentially defining the whole.
