As the Tokyo congress came to a close, the world's architects turned their sights toward Durban, South Africa, for our profession’s next global event. Architecture Otherwhere is the theme that will be both defined and studied in this forum where all points of view will come together, where all voices can be heard, without false consensus or announced revelations. Exploring architecture otherwhere, in other regions, other contexts, other social structures, through other practices; gaining a better understanding of others in order to better understand one's self. In Durban, architects will study the new geography of a world being built, with other preoccupations, other means of expression, other representation models. Brussels, 11 April 2011: Today, right at the start of this year's EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), the Architects Council of Europe (ACE) and the European Concrete Platform (ECP) launched the multilingual sustainable construction glossary.

This prize aims to heighten the awareness and to associate the various actors in the territorial transformation process: planners, builders and customers, for the promotion of the quality of projects and construction, in both natural and urban contexts. The 2011 Prize will honour a realisation completed between 1st July 2008 and 30 June 2011. It shall express a vision for the future, based on respect for the past. >>

ThyssenKrupp Elevator launches the 12th edition of its biennial architecture award. It is organised in collaboration with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the support of the Chamber of Architects of Turkey. The prizes will be awarded to the winners of this single stage international competition for the design of a Disaster Prevention and Education Centre in Istanbul. Organised in conformity with the UNESCO UIA regulations, the competition has been approved by the International Union of Architects.

The Architects Council of Europe together with the European Concrete Platform and Future Conversations is organising a Conference entitled "Do you Speak Sustainable Construction?". The Conference will be held in Brussels, on 20 May 2010.

Talking from the hubbub of the UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen, UIA President Louise Cox revealed the 'scary' perception that the average person on the street has presented to her about architects at the conference.
