WHAT MAKES A CITY?

At the 5^th European Summit of Regions and Cities the EFAP is presenting a pioneer project to identify and monitor innovative plans and design in the areas of architecture and urbanism, combined with art, design, science, technology, education, and sustainability. Prof. Winy Maas, architect, urban planner, founder of the international MVRDV office, and Head of the Why Factory will get in debate with the President of the Committee of the Regions, Ms. Mercedes Bresso, to launch this ambitious Urban Renaissance Program. Its goal is the exploration of new ideas, experimentation, and ultimately the creation of forward-thinking solutions for cities and Regions in Europe. In partnership with mayors, engaging a wide range of emerging talented architects and urban designers, experts, the business sectors, economists, artists and universities, such as the London School of Economics and Delft University of Technology, the project will provide concrete strategies for future urban development.

The EFAP, European Forum for Architectural Policies, aims to promote architecture in the broadest sense and to enhance architecture and urban culture as an essential component in the next EU programs on cohesion and sustainable development. The Urban Renaissance Program will bridge the creative sector with public governance, politics, and business, aiming to start a new culture in making the European city.
