GALLERY 3: MY PUBLIC SPACE

Exhibition 06 june 2008 - 19 october 2008

Exhibition at NAI Rotterdam (Gallery 3), NAI Rotterdam, External location and NAI Rotterdam (Museumpark): 06 june 2008 - 19 october 2008

'My Public Space' is a travelling exhibition that makes it clear that public space in Europe is much less public and accessible than we tend to think. How our immediate surroundings are organised is increasingly subject to privatisation, thematisation, control, commercialisation and the influence of the media. Eight correspondents carried out research on urban developments in Dublin, Copenhagen, Naples, Barcelona, Rotterdam, Tirana, Brussels and Berlin to find out how the transformation of public space has taken place.

Exhibition kiosks
The results of the investigation will be presented in text and image in eight portable exhibition kiosks which will placed in the open in Rotterdam and on the NAI site from 28 June. Gallery 3 will present a photographic historical survey of public space from 6 June. On the same date the website http://www.mypublicspace.eu/ will go online, including the European Public Index: an index of public space in Europe maintained by correspondents. The website also includes the current locations of the kiosks. The full research reports of the correspondents will be collected in a newsletter.

The exhibition My Public Space is organised by the NAI in collaboration with the European Prize for Urban Public Space and is designed and compiled by the design agency Zones Urbaines Sensibles (ZUS).

The exhibition is sponsored by the Architecture Incentive Fund
