GREEN POINTS: Encompassing nearly 50,000 square feet (4645 m2), the
community center replaces two existing buildings. Public amenities include
a full-service gymnasium, dance studio, computer lab, multipurpose rooms
and a weight-training room. Sustainable elements include a reflective roof,
permanent planters on the rooftop that reduce storm-water runoff and limit
the need for potable water, proximity to public transportation, secure bike
racks, changing facilities, and the use of low-VOC materials and dormered
skylights. The project is seeking LEED Silver certification for New Construction
from the U.S. Green Building Council, Washington, D.C.
