Streets Network Meeting & Tricky Issue Seminar on Shared and Level Surfaces
At Palestra, Southwark 10am to 3pm 
The Streets Network meeting will focus on how TfLs Better Streets guidance is working out in practice , and will be  followed by a  seminar  on  approaches to  Shared & Level street Surfaces.

Planning Network Meeting & Tricky Issue Seminar on Infill Schemes
At Palestra, Southwark 10am to 3pm 
The Planning Network meeting will provide an update on the London Plan and Housing Design Guide and will include a discussion on the impact of current Government thinking on planning.  It will be followed by a seminar on approaches to dealing with infill development schemes.

Site Visit to Granville New Homes
A visit to Granville New Homes based in South Kilburn to get an insight into the scheme's design approach with some of the planners, architects and others involved in the scheme acting as our guides.

Foundation Day 1 – Introduction to Urban Design
Palestra, Southwark from 9.30am to 5pm   
The first day of our 4 day long foundation courses covering the basics of urban design, including design principles, how places are structured, how movement networks function & their relation to land use, density & the character of places.
 
Wednesday 22nd and Tuesday 28th September 2010
Housing Foundation Days 2 and 3 – Theory, Policy, Funding & Processes and Design: Context and Opinions
Palestra, Southwark from 9.30am to 5pm 
Covering the economics of housing development, residents preferences, different housing layouts & types, their pros & cons & relevance for different places & users. Also looks at the importance of design principles for housing such as context, layout, density, accessibility, maintainability & lifetime performance.

Planning Foundation Daysand 3 – Design, Policy & Planning Process and Planning Decisions & Design at Appeal
Palestra, Southwark from 9.30am to 5pm
Looking at the world of planning and how it can help us achieve good quality places. The course covers policy, development management, design appraisal, negotiation, reporting & decision making.
 
Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th October 2010
Streets Foundation Day 2 and 3 – Better Streets Design Principles  and Implementing Schemes 
Palestra, Southwark from 9.30am to 5pm 
The course will look at why good streets matter & their benefits. It will explain the design principles in the Mayor’s document Better Streets & look at the importance of understanding the context for any scheme and will run through the 5 levels of schemes set out in the guidance. 
 
Friday 8th October 2010
Foundation Day 4 – Big Design Day
Palestra, Southwark 9.30am to 5pm 
Shared between planning, housing specialists, green space & streets practitioners. Teams will consider an area, looking at understanding its context, to first set scheme objectives & then develop design ideas combining changes to the street, buildings & open spaces holistically.

Workshop – London's Housing Design Requirements - an overview of current policy, guidance and standards
Palestra, from 9.30am to 1.30pm 
This session will explain design requirements required in housing schemes as set out by the Mayor and HCA London.

Site Visit to Covent Garden Legible London Pilot
A visit to see how the Legible London mapping, decluttering and signage system is working in practice..

Housing Network Meeting & Tricky Issue Seminar on Resource Efficient Housing
Palestra, Southwark 10am to 3pm 
Network meetings are an opportunity to hear about what others are doing, get updates on projects, policy and funding issues and discuss what you are doing with peers.  The Tricky issue seminar will look in detail at Resource Efficient Housing, an issue that people have told us is important and they would like to discuss.

Workshop – London's Housing Design Requirements Residential Streets, Crime, Parking & Refuse
Palestra, Southwark 9.30am to 1.30pm 
Following on from the 6th October session, this workshop will look in detail at design requirements that relate to 'public and shared spaces' in housing developments. It will focus on the Mayor’s requirements alongside the Manual for Streets & Secured by Design.

Workshop – Mayor’s Great Spaces
Palestra, Southwark 9.30am to 5pm
This session will showcase some of the green space, street and other public realm schemes that form part of the Mayor’s Great Spaces project.  Each scheme's objectives, designs, and management processes will be explained.  
 
Friday 22nd October 2010
Workshop – Creating Inclusive Spaces
Palestra, Southwark 9.30am to 5pm
This workshop will explain the principles behind inclusive design for pubic spaces,  suggesting ways practitioners can encompasses & support creating places that cater for the needs of all groups of people.
 
Site Visits, Network Meetings & Tricky Issue Sessions are free to UDL subscribing members, Ј175 + VAT for others.
 
Foundation Courses cost Ј600 + VAT for a 4 day Course.
