“Yar-Gorod” meets young architects and sees the winter off

During Pancake week the 6th Festival “Goroda” (“Cities”) was celebrated in Jaroslavl as “Jar-Gorod” festival.

The “Goroda” festivals became more important not only for young architects. Last summer art-building reached the lake Baikal thanks to organizers’ energy. This year it took place in Yaroslavl, which is called “the capital of Shrovetide”.

The Gubernatorial garden in the centre of the city is decorated with 20 constructions created by young architects from Moscow, St.Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazakhstan. Architects realized their projects using snow as well as wood. Everybody could create a scarecrow – not only participants but also citizens. All of them followed the show, took pictures and supported young architects.

Yaroslavl welcomed the guests. Architects got acquainted with Yaroslavl and its small streets, old mansions and churches. They were greatly impressed by the city which inspired for creation. The ideas of architectural scarecrows came up to the people who didn’t take part in the festival.

It’s evidently that Russian architecture needs such projects as festival “Goroda”. It might be a starting point for the new generation.

We hope that the festival is to be continued.
